CITY OF RENO AND WINDSPIRE ENERGY SEEK ARTIST TO PAINT WINDSPIRE® WIND TURBINE

Selected Artist to Do Live Painting during July 8th Artown Event

RENO, NEV- (April 22, 2010) Windspire Energy™ (formerly Mariah Power) (www.WindspireEnergy.com), developer of the Windspire® wind turbine, and the City of Reno today released an RFP to paint the City of Reno’s Windspire wind turbine during a live Artown event on July 8that the West Street Market.  The event is a celebration of the City’s commitment to both art and renewable energy.

The project is a partnership between Windspire Energy, the City of Reno and Artown that seeks to draw attention to Reno’s commitment to arts and renewable energy during the month long art festival. The artist(s) selected for this project will work closely with Windspire Energy and the City of Reno to design and paint the 10 foot base pole of the Windspire that will be installed on the roof of the City’s Parking Gallery.

“We are really excited to partner with the City to make their Windspire a true piece of public art,” said Amy Berry, Director of Marketing at Windspire Energy. “This event is a great way to put the City’s commitment to art and renewable energy on stage for a night.”

“We do these energy projects because it makes good financial sense and it helps protect the environment,” said Mayor Bob Cashell. “But it’s even more worthwhile when we can install such beautifully designed equipment and then find an artist to make it into a work of art.”

The state of Nevada has a renewable energy portfolio goal of 20% by 2015; this is the most aggressive renewable portfolio standard in the nation. With the addition of this Windspire® to downtown, the City of Reno has made one more stride toward the meeting and exceeding of Nevada’s lofty goal.

The RFP is available for download at http://windspireenergy.com/news-center/artown-rfq/ and is open to all artists in the northern Nevada and Northern California area. Interested artists can also contact Kristyn Bishop at Windspire Energy at marketing@windspireenergy.com or 775-852-0200 x224.

The Windspire as Art event on July 8th is part of the 15th annual Artown festival, July 2010.  The month-long summer arts festival features more than 400 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide, with major funding provided by the City of Reno.
